If you haven’t cleaned out your medicine cabinet in quite a while now is the time to do it. According to the FDA, “expired medical products can be less effective or risky due to a change in chemical composition or decrease in potency.”

Here’s your action plan.

-Flush medicine down the sink or drain (unless specifically instructed to do so according to the medication’s label).
-Give or sell medicine to family and friends.

-Read the medication label for disposal instructions that may be included.
-Reference Indiana’s list of unwanted medicine take back collection programs to find a drop-off location nearest you.
